The outcome of an appeasement policy
French newspaper
June 28th, 2005
Maryam Rajavi,
President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, shares her views on the presidential
elections in her country, from the headquarters of the National Council
of Resistance of Iran in Auvers-Sur-Oise Oise
The wife of the founder of the National Council of Resistance of Iran,
Massoud Rajavi, predicts that the Iranian regime becoming more conservative
will accelerate the it's downfall, whether west helps or not.
(Q):
How do you explain the failure of the reformists in the elections?
(A): What is referred to as reform, in fact, is only an eight year process
from religious fascism to religious fascism. Those who supported Khatami
wrongfully called him a religious democrat. Iranians people, by large,
boycott the Friday's elections. Widespread rigging was reported by the
foreign correspondents in Iran. Boycott is a historic "No" to
the mullah's regime and a "Yes" to democratic change in Iran.
Iranian people proved that they would not demand any thing less than overthrow
of the religious dictatorship and its replacement with the government
of people.
(Q):
Can the election of an extremist accelerate the regime's down fall?
(A): I believe it will accelerate it. This is undoubtedly an irreversible
milestone.
(Q)
With the United States' help?
(A) Disappointed masses and increased repression will accelerate this
process. Of course, by adopting a decisive policy, the US and Europe can
help the Iranian people. Unfortunately, their appeasement policies have
slowed down and impeded this process so far. As we observe, the total
dominance of the most barbaric factions of the mullah's regime is the
direct result of West's appeasement towards this regime. Such policy aimed
to help the reformists but in contrary resulted in an opposite outcome.
Today we see a member of the Revolutionary Guards [Pasdar] at the top.
This is the result of a policy lead by France in Europe. Appeasement must
end.
(Q)
Should we be concern about escalation of Iran's nuclear activities?
(A) They have already announced that they will restart their nuclear activities,
so would repression inside the country and terrorism abroad. Last Sunday,
Ahmadinejad, Warned the Europeans to come down off your ivory towers and
asked them to adopt themselves to his policies. This is an indication
of higher expectations from Europeans.
(Q)
Your movement is accused of being a cult ...
(A) There were first accusations of terrorism against us, in the absence
of any evidence to justify their campaign of lies they have turned those
accusations into labeling us a "cult". Any one who knows the
definition of the word "cult", realizes that the activities
of our movements are far from that. Very clearly we are struggling for
a social goal. As a popular resistance with more than two hundred representative
offices around the world, we are a movement with open doors to reporters
and support of more than 1000 political dignitaries, and parliamentarians
across the world. In our gathering on June 18th in Cergy-France, more
than 20,000 Iranians participated along with French friends, and political
personalities such as Allen Vivian, who chairs the governments commission
against cults. The support of such prestigious characters is indicative
that the cult accusation against our movement is baseless.
